Fifty-five years ago this month, four brave seventh graders were the first African Americans to desegregate Stratford Magnet School in Nashville.

Saturday night, the school celebrated the anniversary and each of the important people involved in the historic event.

Pamela Franklin, Brenda Haywood, Beverly Ward, Bernadine Rabathaly, and Ronald Webb were recognized.

Webb was the man who protected those girls that day and became a champion for each of them throughout their lives.
