A/C Technicians Busy As Heat Wave Continues

As temperatures continued to rise in Middle Tennessee on Tuesday, A/C technicians said they were experiencing one of their busiest weeks of the year.

"When it gets way up in the nineties, they're gonna be running a lot more than they're used to," Dean Schnakenberg, a field supervisor with Lee Company, said of A/C units.

According to Schnakenberg, technicians with Lee Company have been responding to people's homes where the owner reported issues with their A/C unit, as well as homeowners who were requesting routine maintenance to make sure their A/C could withstand the heat.

"We've got almost 50 technicians running around at any given time. Day, night, weekends," Schnakenberg said.

While any number of things can go wrong with an A/C unit, Schnakenberg said the most common issue doesn't even have to do with an A/C unit, instead, it has to do with the air filter.

A standard pleated filter has an average life of three months, and if a filter is not replaced, allowing it to get dirty, it can impact the ability of your A/C to work.

If you replace your air filter and the A/C still isn't working properly, Schnakenberg said that's when it's time to call an expert in to diagnose the problem and get your system back working.
