NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Protesters stood outside of the Tennessee State Fair Friday night to fight against soring.
Activists gathered at the Fair to speak out against one of its attractions, the 2015 Grand Champion Horse named "I Am Jose."
The protesters said horse trainers abuse their horses by soring.
Soring is an illegal practice that involves chemicals and chains on the animal's legs and hooves to help them achieve the exaggerated walk.
“We don’t want to teach children that animal cruelty is ok. Its not ok, and that lick they achieve, there is no possible way they achieve it without soring a horse,” said protester Peggy Larimore.
Although claims were made that soring was used on horses at the Celebration this year, no one has been charged.
