Antioch Business Partners With Charter School

Students at Knowledge Academies in Antioch have gotten some major support from an unlikely source, Cavalry Logistics.

The business was set to move into the old Best Buy building. It helps customers move their freight, and its president, Bob King, said they've also supplying inspiration.

"I was lucky enough to have a great mentor, and my hope is that we can provide that for these students," he said.

Before King's father died last year, he told him he had one regret and that was not helping enough in the community.

King decided to make a difference in honor of his dad with his company's neighborhood school. "We've done a food drive program for them, a school supplies program and at Christmas we did angel gifts for them," said King.

They also provided projectors for the school's classrooms, paint for the hallways and they created a mentoring program. Twenty to 30 Cavalry employees sit down with students every week.  "I believe making a difference is important, and I believe I have a responsibility as well," said Cavalry Mentor Mitchell Blom.

Right now Knowledge Academies educates fifth through ninth graders. Next year, they'll add the tenth grade, and Cavalry Logistics plans to  stick around for its growth. "Our long term plan is as students graduate, we want to provide them with a computer," said King.

Cavalry Logistics has even set up a gofundme page to allow the community to help out with their computer goal.
