Delivery drivers have continued to become the targets of criminals, but one local restaurant owner has eliminated a lot of risks through an app.
SoulShine Pizza has been using Delivery Dudes to have his customers' food delivered. It's something that has eliminated a lot of risk, including needing law enforcement's help solving crimes of robbery.
Metro police responded to a delivery driver being robbed at gun point in South Nashville on Tuesday. Thankfully that driver was not injured, but back in August, a 40-year-old delivery driver from Uzbekistan was shot and killed during a pre-planned robbery.
Many times, the robbers call and order a pizza from an address that did not request an order, and that's when the drivers are attacked.
The co-owner of SoulShine Pizza said by outsourcing his delivery drivers through Delivery Dudes, he has not ran into any of these issues.
"You're going to pay when you make the order. When the delivery driver shows up to your house, it's done, you've already paid. It's real fast. They're just handing you the order and walking away," said Chris Sartin, SoulShine Pizza, Co-owner.
Sartin said customers do everything through the app, so there's no need for the drivers to worry about carrying cash or delivering a pizza to a home that did not order the pie.
Officials with the Metro Nashville Police Department have continued to search for the gunman who took the life of the delivery driver back in August. Officers have also been seeking information in a string of recent delivery driver robberies.
