CLEVELAND, Tenn. (AP) - Authorities in Cleveland, Tennessee say a 30-year-old woman falsely accused a Cleveland police officer of rape after he broke off their affair.

Multiple media outlets report that the Bradley County woman was indicted and arrested Wednesday on a felony charge of making false reports. She could face up to four years in prison.

On Aug. 6, the woman went to a hospital and said that Walls had forced her into sex at a cabin in Gatlinburg.

According to interim Police Chief Mark Gibson, Walls recently had ended his affair with the woman and confessed the relationship to his supervisors.

Tenth Judicial District Attorney Steve Crump says the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation concluded that the woman was not telling the truth.

The Associated Press generally does not identify alleged victims of sexual assault.
