NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Nashvillians came together to raise money and awareness for ovarian cancer at the Barbara Leatherwood Fight for a Cure benefit.
Singers and songwriters like Aaron Barker donated their time at Thursday night's event.
Ovarian Cancer effects women of all ages. It is often caught in the later stages, making it so deadly, and there is no test to screen for it.
"I've always asked 'Have you heard of ovarian cancer, and they're like yeah, yeah. Do you think you're tested for that every year. Oh yeah when I get my pap smear.' That's your first misconception," said organizer Deborah Milekovich Leatherwood.
Money raised at the event will go the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance.
NewsChannel 5's Carre Sharp was honored to be a small part of the event, helping spread the word about the signs and symptoms of this deadly disease.
