Mayor Megan Barry announced that she wants Veterans Day to be recognized as a Metro government holiday.
Nearly 700 veterans work within the Nashville government, and two to three vets move to the Music City each day.
Those were just a few reasons why Mayor Barry wanted city officials to approve Veteran's Day as a Metro Government Holiday.
"It's the right thing to do. And it's the right time to do it. Our veterans and their families and friends deserve the opportunity to participate in Veteran's day events," said Barry.
The decision will come at the Metro Civil Service Commission's next meeting in May.
If approved, Mayor Barry will sign an executive order that allows all non-civil-service employees to take the day off.
