A beloved Knoxville non-profit is moving closer to Nashville. The Gentle Barn is an animal sanctuary that rescues animals from abuse and neglect.
"It's about 40 aces of pasture land, barns and buildings," said Jay Weiner, Co-Founder of The Gentle Barn. "We're very excited about it because this property is much bigger."
The Gentle Barn started in California.
"We have been in California for 19 years and we had an opportunity to expand when we came to do a rescue of a wonderful cow named Dudley," said Weiner.
Animals like Dudley are saved from abusive situations then paired with kids, rescued from similar circumstances.
"It's definitely a win-win for both of them. The child is healing the animal as much is the animal is healing the child," he said.
Weiner says he hopes to have their new location up and running by late August.
