FRANKLIN, Tenn. (WTVF) — The Williamson County Fair will not be holding any in-person festivities in 2020, the fair board voted.

According to an announcement by the Williamson County Fair Board, the "pit in the bottom of my stomach" decision was made due to the pandemic and the guidelines set in Governor Bill Lee's reopening plan called the Tennessee Pledge.

While traditionally the fair would begin on the first Friday in August, the fair board said it plans to come up with a virtual way to hold the event, which will take place August 7 through 15.

"They say it's always best to make your decision, move forward, and don't look back. During the next several weeks, the fair board, committee chairman and volunteers are going to be doing both," the fair board's announcement said. "Together, we are looking forward to what 2020 'sign of the times' fair will look like for our community during this pandemic. We will look back with pride, knowing that though this year will be different, it will be the same."

The group plans to take the next several weeks to put together a fair that continues to be focused on agriculture and community while providing education and entertainment.

The fair board is asking the community to contribute any ideas they have for a "sign of the times" virtual fair by sending an email to entertainment@williamsoncountyfair.org.

Your ideas could be picked by the fair board, and those who send one in will be entered to win a family four pack with limited ride passes for the 2021 fair.
