NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A Country music couple made their mark Thursday on the Music City Walk of Fame in front of hundreds of people.
Fans came out in full force as Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood received the huge honor.
Hundreds of people showed up to mostly stand for hours, but it just went to show how loved Garth and Trisha are in Music City.
Trisha and Garth received the 64th and 65th stars on the Music City Walk of Fame during a special ceremony.
The honor came with good reason as Garth has become the number one selling solo artist in U.S. history selling more than 136 million albums.
In 2010, he performed nine sold out concerts in six days to raise money for flood relief efforts in Tennessee, and because of that, Thursday he was also awarded the Music City Ambassador Award.
His wife, Trisha, has also been doing well, selling more than 12 million albums. She also has her own home collection and show on The Food Network.
“It’s very surreal to have gone from moving here, driving down the streets of 16th and 17th Avenue, being a tour guide and watching everybody else do what I desperately wanted to do, to standing here holding this plaque,” Trisha said. “It’s very emotional.”
“I’d like to thank music itself, song writers, publishers,” Garth said. “I’ve got to tell you, in the last 15 years I feel like we’re kind of on an island fighting technology and fighting the big guys, but I promise you, what I love about Nashville and what I love about this place, it is the home of the song writer and it is the protector and the haven of those song writers. Keep it up.”
After the ceremony ended, Garth and Trisha spent a lot of time shaking hands and signing autographs.
Mayor Karl Dean was also awarded a star Thursday on the Walk of Fame as a surprise.
