NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — It's been a wet winter, but all that rain makes for beautiful gardens. Cheekwood kicks off the spring season March 9 with their "Cheekwood In Bloom" event.

"We start planning our spring color back in the summer," said Mary Weber, Director of Horticulture at Cheekwood Estate and Gardens.

Weber says cold weather is all part of the process.

"[Bulbs] are very hearty, perennials. They need this chilling. And that chilling is typically three months in the ground and that's what they're are used to. This doesn't phase them at all," she said.

Every year, the gardens change with different colors and patterns for guests to enjoy. Cheekwood gardeners even carve paths into the beds so you can take the perfect picture.

Weber says there are more than 150,000 bulbs just waiting to explode with color.

"We're hoping for some warmer weather people can get out and finally see some early signs of spring," said Caroline Jeronimus with Cheekwood.

Cheekwood In Bloom opens March 9 and run seven days a week through April 7. Click here for more information.
