Residents remained in shock after flying bullets targeted several homes and a car in a Murfreesboro neighborhood.

Late Sunday night, officials with the Murfreesboro Police Department responded to the intersection of Evergreen Street and Lee Street and found multiple shell casings.

Neighbors said they heard a barrage of bullets before having to duck for cover inside their homes. Some of the bullets pierced through windows and walls.

A resident, who chose not to show her face, told NewsChannel 5 that one of the bullets entered the shutter and went through the headboard.

The bullet came to a stop across the room but it barely missed her three-year-old nephew's head. The child was asleep at the time.

"It could have taken his life, but we're lucky though," she said.

Just a block down Lee Street, Julio Rodriguez and his family have been wanting to move out after a similar experience.

His wife was closing the window to their children's room when a bullet pierced through the window and went across the hall into their bedroom.

"She's like 'Get down they're shooting outside!'" recalled Rodriguez. "I'm scared, I got three little kids and my wife, and if something happened to them, I don't know what I would do."

Rodriguez said his neighborhood has normally been peaceful, but this was the second time a bullets struck his home in less than six months.

Neighbors believed the shooting was gang or drug-related.

The Rodriguez family has been strongly considering moving out of their home of two years.

"They want to move out. The oldest one says we need a new house because this is too dangerous," added Rodriguez.

Police in Murfreesboro said the investigation was ongoing and added no one has been arrested.

A witness said a white car occupied with multiple individuals was seen leaving the scene. Meanwhile, another person saw a maroon vehicle leaving with several passengers, as well.
