One Rutherford County school was forced to close Wednesday after strong winds damaged the building’s roof.
Severe thunderstorms passed through the area around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, bringing strong winds and hail.
Several people were inside Christiana Elementary School attending parent teacher conferences, a book fair, and art show when the storm hit. Everyone inside had to take cover in the hallways.
No one was injured during the incident.
Photos revealed what looked like a large chunk of the roof blown off in the parking lot. School officials said the storm damaged at least seven classrooms.
Strong winds also blew over lights surrounding the school's softball field.
The school will be closed Wednesday as maintenance personnel assess and repair the damage.
