City leaders and community members dedicated the renamed Fredrick Douglass Park in Nashville.
The park was misnamed about 80 years ago. Fred Douglas Park opened in 1936, but was originally supposed to be named after abolitionist Frederick Douglass.
The name change started when council members found a clipping from a local newspaper article that year, discussing the new park and the person it was to be named after.
On Wednesday, Metro Parks, city council, and Mayor Megan Barry changed the park's name to honor the abolitionist.
Mayor Barry said she hopes Douglass' name and the park's change inspires children.
Douglass last visited this area just before his death in the late 1800's.
