A Clarksville man has been out of $5 thousand after he was swindled during a scam that lasted several days.
"I couldn't sleep for the first two days. I just went to sleep last night," said the victim.
Not knowing if your son is safe could keep any parent up at night. Especially, when you're led to believe your child has been locked up in jail.
"Matthew Dixon told me that he had been in a serious accident and that they locked him up," said the victim.
The victim asked to remain anonymous and told NewsChannel 5 the caller said that his son was in an Indiana jail after he crashed while driving under the influence.
"So I said what is it going to take to get him out, and he said the judge wants the full amount which is $5,000," said the man.
The victim called his son, but after a day went by, he never received a call back and transferred the money to a Walmart bank.
But if his son called back sooner, his father wouldn't have been a victim.
"I just feel like I've been violated," said the victim.
Now the Clarksville resident has been offering advice to others, so they can avoid the heartache.
"All families need to develop a code that nobody else knows except for your family. If you have that code you can catch someone trying to scam you a little quicker," said the victim.
There's now an active investigation into this matter in Indiana.
