NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — As temperatures drop, preparations are underway to make sure everyone in Nashville has a warm place to stay.

The Nashville Rescue Mission, Room In the Inn and Metro government are teaming up to make sure everyone has somewhere to go.

It was a busy Monday at the Room In the Inn. There are 100 beds at the facility, and 188 people were taken to partner churches and synagogues across the city. Officials are also collecting scarves, gloves and coats for people in need.

“Everybody needs to be indoors,” said Rachel Hester, Executive Director of the Room In the Inn. “We want everyone to have a safe place to stay. If we don’t have a place for them to stay, we will find them a place to stay.”

The Nashville Rescue Mission is also prepared to help more people due to the cold. Officials said even if all the beds are filled, they will make room for everyone. They want to make sure everyone has a place to stay that is safe and warm.

Metro’s Cold Weather Overflow Shelter is activated when the local forecast reaches 28 degrees or below. It is located in a vacant Davidson County Sheriff’s Office dormitory on Harding Place. It has room for 150 people. It will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Transportation will be provided from Riverfront Station on 1st Avenue South.

Metro officials said between Room In The Inn and Nashville Rescue mission, 1,247 beds are available. Metro’s overflow shelter increases that number to 1,397.
