For the upcoming Fourth of July weekend, Kroger partnered with United Service Organizations to give customers a chance to support service members by helping create treat bags to be shared with deploying soldiers and traveling service members.

On Saturday, customers donated individual items, including salty snacks, a sweet snack, and gum or mints. Customers also helped assemble the treat bags and included a personal note of thanks to the military service member.

"I get to say thank you every day to our service members, thank them for their service. It gets me. It's really an amazing thing to be a patriotic American who every day gets to say thank you for your service, thank you for being willing to lay down your life so that I have the freedom to come to Kroger to shop, or drive to Nashville when I want to, or to travel across the country, and I think sometimes people forget that," said Pamela Holz, Centers Operations and Program Manager for USO Fort Campbell & USO Nashville.

Now until August 18, Kroger will be collecting funds for the USO via coinboxes located at each checklane in all are Kroger stores.

The company has also made a $1 million contribution to the USO through its Honoring Our Heroes program.
