A Maury County Commissioner's reaction to being pulled over has garnered a lot of backlash and attention. It was all record by a body camera worn on a Mt. Pleasant police officer.
Sergeant Ray Odem stopped Commissioner William "Tot" Roddy for violating the "Move Over Law" on June 29 along Hwy. 243 and 43. Two days earlier, a molten aluminum spill damaged that intersection. At the time, Tennessee Department of Transportation crews were resurfacing the roadway.
Before the Mt. Pleasant police officer walked up to the truck, Roddy was out of the vehicle yelling at the officer, asking him why he was pulled over.
Once at the truck, the officer said, "Sir the reason I pulled you over, was you didn't move over." Roddy yelled back saying, "I moved over! I was over two lanes! You're a d*** liar!"
He continued to accuse the officer of being a liar, and aimed to only pull someone over before handing over his license and registration.
Mt. Pleasant Police Chief Michael Hay say Sgt. Odem pulled over 10 drivers that day for also not moving over. Three were cited. Commissioner Roddy was not. But the video shows that did not stop the insults.
As the officer asked the commissioner to move over in the future, Roddy argued that the officer didn't have his flashing lights on. The officer agreed but said the law still applied to the construction workers along the side of the road, and again asked him to move to the far lane in the future.
The officer said "God Bless," as he walked away to which Roddy responded with, "I'll get your f****** job. It's a matter of time..."
Commissioner Roddy and Sgt. Odem are no strangers to each other. Back in 2013 Sgt. Odem stopped Roddy for running a stop sign. Commissioner Roddy was thrown in jail for allegedly stalking Odem only two weeks later.
NewsChannel 5 reached out to Roddy and went by his home, but did not hear back before the story aired.
