NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — The call for change against racial injustice and inequality has echoed across the country, including in Tennessee. Now several companies are taking it a step further.
Many brands and businesses have released statements saying they stand for equality, but now they are making it a point to hire more people of color to combat workforce inequality.
Diversity studies show there are proven methods to increase equality and inclusion in the workplace. Company owners should set clear measurable goals, be transparent and hold themselves accountable. Experts say becoming more diverse is good for employees and business.
A second step to invoke change involves treating complaints of bias, unfairness or discrimination as a problem that can be solved – not a legal issue.
“There's good evidence both increasing the quality of a climate in the workplace and increasing the diversity of the workforce tends to be associated with better outcomes, especially in companies that are trying to be innovative in their production process, marketing and the like,” said UMASS equity and inclusion expert Donald Tomaskovic-Devey.
