Company Getting Our Of Probation Business

Posted

The private probation company at the center of a federal lawsuit is getting out of the probation business.

NewsChannel 5 Investigates first reported on the lawsuit filed against Providence Community Corrections in Rutherford County.

It alleged the probation company charged excessive fees and threatened to jail people who could not pay.  After the lawsuit, PCC was sold.

Its new owner said it was closing all of PCC's private probation offices. The company signed a consent order with state stating it did nothing wrong.

Rutherford County ended its contract with PCC in March. The federal lawsuit was still pending.
