MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) - U.S. Rep. Scott DesJarlais has recently learned that he is cancer-free.
The Republican from South Pittsburg said Monday that his oncologist gave him a good report in May.
DesJarlais, who worked as a physician before winning his seat in Congress in 2010, found out he had cancer in his neck in July before winning a tight August GOP primary by 38 votes against state Sen. Jim Tracy of Shelbyville.
DesJarlais said he was undergoing treatments for the three weeks leading up to the election.
The congressman also defeated Democrat Lenda Sherrell in the November general election, while his treatment has still ongoing.
