Former Vanderbilt University football player and convicted rapist Cory Batey has been charged with refusing to register as a sex offender.

According to an affidavit filed in Davidson County, Batey declined to register in the 48-hour period following his conviction on aggravated rape and several lesser charges.

Batey reportedly told an employee with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office he would not sign anything without speaking to his attorney first – even though he had already been convicted.

The employee and a sheriff’s office sergeant said they showed Batey the Tennessee code requiring him to register and he still refused.

He has since been added to the database as a “violent sexual offender.”

A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for May on Batey’s convictions for aggravated rape, sexual battery and criminal attempt to commit aggravated rape.
