CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — The United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit ruled in favor of a Clarksville Police officer and Montgomery County Animal Control officials in an animal cruelty case from 2016.
The court upheld the district court's rulingwhich dismissed all of former animal rescuer Cindy King claims against the defendants including Clarksville Police Officer John Matos and Montgomery County Animal Control officials.
In August of 2016, she was charged with five counts of animal cruelty and the five dogs found in her Clarksville home were seized. Officials later seized ten more dogs from other locations. She said she was wrongfully accused of the crime.
In 2017, King filed a lawsuit, claiming officials conducted an illegal search and seizure and that her 4th amendment rights were violated. However, on Jan. 3, 2020, the court said Officer Matos and the others acted reasonably and properly, and his swift actions may well have saved the dogs lives.
