A toddler was killed and several others were injured in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 440 in Nashville.
The six-vehicle collision happened Monday morning in westbound lanes near 21st Avenue.
Two-year-old Logan Pederson of Lebanon was killed in the crash.
It happened at 9 a.m. a 2008 Mercury Mariner, 2006 Nissan Frontier, and a 2010 Cadillac SRX were all stopped in traffic on I-440 westbound when the Mariner was struck from behind by the driver of a 2015 Kenworth dump truck, critically injuring Logan who was in a rear child safety seat.
That initial rear-end crash caused the chain reaction of the Mercury to strike the Nissan and the Nissan to collide with the Cadillac.
The driver of the dump truck, 40-year-old Shawn Gardner of Bon Aqua, Tennessee, told police he was looking down at the time of the crash because items from inside the truck had fallen to the floor board. Gardner was not injured.
The boy’s father, 40-year-old Robert Hudson was driving and his mom, 21-year old Samantha Hudson was in the passenger seat.
They were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Logan was also taken to Vanderbilt where he died this afternoon.
The driver and only occupant of the Nissan, 67-year-old Nolberta Gardea was transported to Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
No one was injured in the Cadillac.
Officials said there was no evidence of alcohol or drugs at the scene.
Upon completion, the crash investigation will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review.
