NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Police arrested a driver who rear-ended a Metro Nashville police officer on Interstate 24.
The incident happened around 4:30 a.m. Monday in eastbound lanes at Bell Road. Metro police confirmed Officer David Simmonds was working a crash when Jason Patton hit his patrol car.

Police said Patton, who has two prior convictions for driving under the influence, smelled of alcohol and had visible signs of impairment. He was arrested and charged with DUI.
Officer Simmonds was taken to an area hospital for treatment but is now recovering at home. The 33-year-old has been with the department for five years.
