JACKSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WTVF) — Cummins Falls is reopening with the implementation of a Gorge Access Permit to help manage crowd size.

The state park draws large crowds of people who want to enjoy the beautiful waterfall and gorge every season.

But due to COVID-19, park officials have to limit access to the gorge. Only 100 people per day will be allowed into that part of the park. And the parking lot will be restricted to 50 vehicles at a time.

The rest of the park is still free and open to the public, but those wanting to access the gorge must pay $6 for the Gorge Access Permit, which is found online.

Officials say the fee covers administrative and technical costs at state parks. Visitors wanting to go to the gorge will be required to show a park ranger confirmation of the permit purchase, either in paper or electronic form. They will then be required to watch a safety instructional video before gaining access to the gorge.

Three additional miles of hiking on the “Delia Bell Meadow Trail” are open to visitors without a permit, which includes a new overlook.
