A suspect was taken into custody after a Simpson County deputy was shot and taken to an area hospital.
Officials with Kentucky State Police said deputy Eddie Lawson was serving an arrest warrant to Ben Wyatt III at a home at 104 Cherry Street.
When Lawson pulled got to the home, Wyatt was outside the residence in the driveway. Deputy Lawson recognized Wyatt and told him that he was under arrest.
That's when Wyatt immediately began firing at Lawson. He was hit twice - once in the pelvis and the right knee.
The deputy returned fire hitting Wyatt one time in the left arm.
Lawson was transported to Skyline Medical Center by ground on Interstate 65. Friday, he was listed in fair condition with all of his vital signs stable.

Wyatt fled the scene on foot running about three blocks where he hid in a field. He was later located and arrested by KSP units without incident.
Officers then found Wyatt nearby. He was taken to The Medical Center at Franklin. He has since been released from the hospital and booked in jail. Wyatt was charged with attempted murder of a police officer, among other charges.
