Developers have planned to turn a church in downtown Franklin into a retail space.
The fellowship hall of the former First Franklin United Methodist Church was set to be gutted in order to make way for a restaurant and retail shops.
The plans were just the beginning of a major construction boom in the historic city.
Developers saw the church site as prime real estate.
"That location, one block well a half block off five points off Main Street, we think is the perfect location,” said Steve Bacon with Harpeth Associates.
Just three blocks up Main Street, the nearly $90 million dollar Harpeth Square project was only days away from getting started.
It'll feature more shops, residential units, and a hotel. It's set to be finished in two years.
