NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A driver has been charged after an eight-year-old boy was struck by an SUV in south Nashville Friday morning.
The incident happened shortly before 8 a.m. near Packard Drive and Creekside Drive, not far from Haywood Lane and Interstate 24.
Officials with Metro police said the boy was attempting to cross Packard Drive when he was struck by a SUV being driven by 28-year-old Leticia Hernandez-Morales.
According to authorities, the child ran into the path of the vehicle. Morales was charged with driving without a license.
The child was rushed to Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt with non-life threatening injuries.
A section of the road was closed while officials remained on the scene but has since reopened.
Officials with Metro Nashville Public Schools confirmed the boy is a 3rd grade student at Tusculum Elementary School.
