An Ashland City man recalled the terrifying moments that nearly cost him his life on Wednesday after he tried to cross a flooded creek on his way to work.
"It was completely dark, you couldn't see anything. The headlights were coming across the top of the water but that didn't do anything but reflect," Edward Bryant recalled.
The 48-year-old Marine Corps. Veteran couldn't see how badly the road in front of his was flooded until his truck started floating.
"When I backed up into the current it lifted the rear of the truck and at that point I was along for a nice little twisty ride," he added.
That current carried him about a half mile before wedging his truck on the edge of a bridge, his F-150 was quickly filling with water.
"I could've been going to the morgue not the hospital if the bridge didn't catch me," he said.
Edward sat for nearly two hours in frigid cold water. Hypothermia quickly set in as the Ashland City Fire Deparment did their best to save him.
"The actual rescue was simple once they got the equipment to use," he added
Eventually firefighters captured video of Edward, as he was plucked to safety through the rushing water.
Not the way he expected, to spend his Wednesday morning commuter.
"I'm grateful, really grateful," he said.
