DONELSON, Tenn. - A small kitten was recovering at Lebanon Road Animal Hospital after being thrown out of a car window and getting hit by a car.
The incident happened at an intersection on Stewarts Ferry Pike. Steve Grant said he was at a stop light when he saw an object being tossed out.
"I wasn't sure immediately what it was, and then as I got closer I realized someone had thrown a kitten out the window," said Grant who ended up picking up the injured cat.
According to him, the vehicle responsible for the incident was a few cars in front of him, and he didn't have time to get the license plate number or follow it.
He said when he saw the kitten being hit by a car he stepped in to help.
"I immediately slammed on my brakes, put on my 4-ways, jumped out, ran through traffic, and grabbed him, he had actually made it to the median where he collapsed on the side of the road," Grant said. "I was really sad".
The vet at Lebanon Road Animal Hospital said the kitten, who was named Stewart after the place where he was found, suffered from head trauma, had nerve damage to his left front leg, road rash and a severe laceration to his tail.
It was possible his tail and one of his legs would have to be amputated. A GoFundMe account has been set up for Stewart to help with the veterinary expenses. Grant said his family had no plans of adopting the kitten, and he has been hoping someone would give him a good home once he gets better.
