NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A complaint from neighbors led to two arrests after police found drugs and a loaded gun inside an apartment where several children were staying.

Metropolitan Nashville Police said there were several children inside the apartment in the 1500 block of Porter Road when a woman answered the door Thursday evening.

Officers smelled marijuana, and after obtaining a search warrant were able to enter the apartment.

Inside the apartment, police found a loaded .45 Caliber handgun, crack cocaine, powder cocaine, marijuana and digital scales inside the kitchen. They also found several bags full of drugs hiding throughout the kitchen area.

Officers learned one of the men found inside the apartment, identified as Marvell Thomas, is a registered sex offender, who was wanted on two outstanding warrants for failing to report after being released from jail as sex offenders are required to do.

A second man inside the apartment, identified as Joseph Blakely, claimed ownership of the gun, and told police he had it to protect the children.
