State House Majority Whip Jeremy Durham has refused a request that he step down from his Republican leadership position in the Tennessee House following revelations of a drug task force investigation and a letter the lawmaker wrote on behalf of a former youth pastor who pleaded guilty to child porn possession.
House Republican Caucus Chairman Glen Casada confirmed Wednesday that he had a conversation with Durham in which he "discussed all the options available to him."
Casada said he didn't directly ask Durham to resign as whip, but declined to elaborate on what he deemed a "confidential conversation."
Over the weekend, Durham became the target of anonymous robocalls demanding his resignation.
The calls followed the release of investigative documents revealing that prosecutors had sought prescription fraud charges, but that a grand jury declined to indict him.
