NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — As COVID-19 spreads throughout the mid-state, an East Nashville business is hoping to help other local shops get through the uncertainty.

Good Wood Nashville is cutting, painting and selling "Nashville Strong" signs of all different sizes, with half of the proceeds going to local Nashville businesses.

Dave Puncochar said the effort is more than a way to give back, it's a way to give thanks. Puncochar was in his East Nashville home when the deadly Super Tuesday tornado ripped through his neighborhood, causing "catastrophic" damage.

"The neighborhood is just a stark contrast of what it was before," he said. "I've never experienced anything like it."

Puncochar said he was blown away by how quickly local businesses sprang into action to help people impacted by the deadly storms.

"They just show up and bring food for all the people who have come out to help," he said.

So as COVID-19 closed shops, restaurants and businesses across the area, Puncochar knew it was his turn to help.

"One of my employees… said, 'what about those "Nashville Strong" things, we could make signs,'" Puncochar remembered.

Soon the shop got to work cutting, painting and selling the signs, with half the money raised going to a Nashville business of the buyer's choosing.

"I thought that we could offer somebody something that’s a keepsake that they would want anyway and then give half of those proceeds away," Puncochar said "In two days, we’ve had about $6,000 in sales, so that means $3,000 is going to small businesses."
