Retirement and travel weren't in the cards for Jim Edwards after he sold his business in 2009. Instead, he acted on his desire to go to law school.

The Daily News Journal reported the 75-year-old Murfreesboro resident recently earned a degree from the Nashville School of Law. He has been studying for the bar exam.

Edwards said after he sold his insurance company in 2009, he found he had a lot of extra time. So he began attending Volunteer State Community College. He got married in 2011 and his wife, Dr. Gena Carter, encouraged him to attend law school.

As part of his learning, Edwards began volunteering with a local Legal Aid Society, which assists residents on issues such as disability and unemployment compensation. That effort reaffirmed his belief that helping others was his calling.
