An African-American teenager has filed a $300,000 federal lawsuit against the Robertson County Board of Education saying he suffered repeated harassment and racial bullying, but school officials failed to stop it.
DeAngelo Jones, who’s now 18, said in his suit that the bullying started when he was a freshman at Springfield High School and joined the baseball team. He said older white teammates repeatedly taunted him and hurled racial epitaphs at him. One student, he said, yelled to him to "Run like the KKK is after you."
Court records showed the teen's mother reported the bullying at the school, but officials did nothing to stop it. The teen also said he was later benched from the team.
A message left with school officials was not returned.
