NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — The Humphreys County Sheriff's Office said an escaped inmate returned to the jail after spending about seven hours on the run Thursday night into Friday morning.

Deputies say Steven Ray Hamm escaped from the Humphreys County Jail at about 8:00p.m. on the 4th of July.

The 45-year-old man was in custody for theft of property, burglary of a motor vehicle, failure to appear, and failure to pay child support.

At this point, it's unclear how exactly he escaped custody. However, deputies said Hamm turned himself back into the jail by about 3:00a.m. Friday.

It's likely he will face new charges for the escape.
