Evidence Suggests Man Killed By Bounty Hunters

Detectives with the Metro Nashville Police Department have found that evidence in a murder case from a mobile home park on Dickerson Pike suggests the gunmen could have been bounty hunters.

Anthony Jacobs, 30, was a maintenance man who tried to stop a burglary on Feb. 4.

Police said Jacobs was shot while trying to stop three armed men, who forced their way into a mobile home in the park off Dickerson.

“We are exploring the possibility that the individuals who went into the trailer are bounty hunters or bondsmen or something along those lines, but that is only a possibility.  At this stage nothing is certain,” said Jesse Holt.

Witnesses told investigators at least one, if not two, of the gunmen wore patches on their clothing that looked like badges.

One of the witnesses, talked to Jacob's fiance', Melissa Day. Day said, “she says she saw a badge, but she couldn't make out the badge.  She said they talked you know with real good grammar,”

Police were certain the gunmen mistakenly entered the wrong home, because of what they said to the people inside.

Investigators have collected a lot of evidence at the crime scene, and knew the men left in a dark blue 4-door sedan. They hoped the person or persons who did not fire the shots that killed Jacobs will talk to them.

“We are speaking to the lesser involved party and we're asking him to come forward go ahead and speak with us now. Get ahead of this now before we have to come seeking him, because at that point he's not going to have the opportunity to explain himself,” said Holt.

“I want to know who they are.  Why would they come in here?  I know they probably didn't mean to kill him, but they took him.  He was a good guy,” said Day.

The end result was a woman who has lost her best friend. “We want to find these people, so he can rest, where we all can rest in peace,” said Day.

Police asked anyone that may have helpful information in the case to call Crime Stoppers at 615-74-27463. Anyone with information can remain anonymous.
