In honor of National Police Week, Metro Nashville Police officers held a memorial service to remember the many fallen officers of the past.
The week serves as a reminder of how important it is to honor those who keep the city safe.
Wednesday morning's memorial, was held at the Andrew Jackson Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police. It's become a tradition honoring those as far back as 1875.
"It's important to remember those who have sacrificed themselves selflessly in the name of the city and to make sure the city moves on and is safe and secure to help grow this community and make it stronger," said James Smallwood.
Officer Eric Mumaw's picture sat front and center during the ceremony. Mumaw lost his life in February while attempting to save an intoxicated woman from drowning.
