NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Monday marked the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp. To honor and remember those involved, Cumberland University held a ceremony recognizing International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

It included guest speaker Joyce Vise, who is the daughter of a Holocaust survivor and Cumberland Library namesake Harry Vise. Joyce talked about how her dad escaped from Germany into the Netherlands and then to England.

The Vise family eventually settled in Clarksville, where he father worked at a boot factory. He later started the Texas Boot Company in Lebanon.

Harry Vise eventually joined the Board of Trust at Cumberland University once the school was integrated and dedicated the library so the school could be accredited.
