The suspect in a police chase that killed a Murfreesboro mother appeared in court for a preliminary hearing.

Dashcam footage of the high-speed chase was played during the hearing, which was the first time it was seen by the public including loved ones of the victim, 28-year-old Jessica Campos.

It showed the black SUV, which police said Simmons stole, weave through traffic nearly missing multiple vehicles.

The chase in June stretched two counties beginning in Coffee County and ending in Rutherford County when Simmons crashed into Jessica Campos’s vehicle, ultimately killing her.

Campos' mother and grandmother were in court Tuesday and watched the heart-wrenching video for the first time.
“The sound of the crash and the...before that and everything it was pretty...like going through it with her,” said family friend, Linda Romero.

Campos' aunt, Mildred Parker, said she's been crying in the weeks since the crash. She said she couldn't watch the crash in court because it was to emotional. Campos left behind a young daughter and son.

"He’s took everything from me," Parker said of Simmons. "He’s took a mother. Her little boy cries for his mother every night."

In an exclusive interview Simmons' cousin told NewsChannel 5 that Simmons was afraid to pull over and end the chase because he thought police were going to shoot him.

The case was sent to a higher court. Simmons won't have a new court date set until Wednesday.
