Father Charged With Criminal Homicide After Son Shot, Killed

LEBANON, Tenn. – A father has been charged with criminal homicide after allegedly shooting and killing his son.

Authorities said the incident happened around 6:22 p.m. Saturday at the Timberline Campground in the 1200 block of Murfreesboro Road.

Officers found 37-year-old Joseph Dewayne Dies who had been shot multiple times.

Police said Joseph and his father, identified as 55-year-old Kirby Wayne Dies, had been living together at the campground and had allegedly gotten into a fight after drinking alcohol.

According to reports, Kirby had allegedly shot Joseph during the altercation. Medics attempted to revive Joseph at the scene.

Joseph was pronounced dead after he was taken to University Medical Center in Lebanon.

Authorities said Kirby Dies was charged with criminal homicide. He was taken to Summit for a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the leg.
