COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – A Putnam County man has been accused of neglect after his 17-month-old child wandered away from a home and was struck by a car.

Officials with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said Timothy Wayne Webb was arrested Tuesday on charges of aggravated child abuse and neglect.

The child was apparently in Webb’s care when she wandered away from a residence on West Broad Street and walked along Highway 70 on the night of August 1.

She was seriously injured when an oncoming car struck her along the roadway. The girl was taken to an area hospital and has since been released.

According to investigators, the driver was not at fault. Webb’s alleged neglect was the primary cause of the incident, they said.

Webb was taken into custody and held on a $50,000 bond. He was also arrested on two unrelated charges of violation of probation and an attachment for not paying child support.
