LEBANON, Tenn (WTVF) — Big fireworks displays in many cities might be canceled because of the pandemic, but fireworks lovers say they plan to bring the show home.

The Fourth of July just might be Tyrell Rutledge’s favorite time of the year. He has visited Surefire Fireworks in Lebanon at least three times this week.

Many people are saying "no" to the large crowds because of the recent spike of COVID-19 cases and instead, are having their own fireworks celebrations.

"There’s going to be a lot more going off with all the events being canceled. Everybody’s going to be doing their own thing this year. So it’s going to be crazy," said Rutledge.

However, Rutledge says the show must go on despite the virus.

"We got to make up for the show downtown so we have to get all the big stuff," he said.

Despite the pandemic canceling plans, local fireworks businesses have seen their profits explode.

"We’ve been hearing so many people say that they were in for so long, they’re inviting their friends and family over," said Tonya Pritchard, with SureFire Fireworks, "It’s been a very different year in a good way. It’s been busy."

The staff at SureFire Fireworks say more and more people are stopping by this year more than ever before. They're actually running out stock.

SureFire Fireworks has been open for more than 40 years. Owner Brenda Rahrer says, so far, this has been her busiest year ever.
