NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A former babysitter in Hermitage has been found guilty of child rape and abuse by a Davidson County jury.

Officials with the District Attorney’s Office said 42-year-old Becky Burlison was found guilty on two counts of aggravated rape of a child and one count each of aggravated child abuse and aggravated child neglect.

Jurors deliberated less than two hours Thursday after hearing three days of testimony.

Burlison was arrested in April 2012 after the two-year-old boy she was babysitting suffered severe injuries when she inserted a brush handle into the child’s rectum.

According to police, the handle broke and became lodged inside his body.

Burlison had apparently been a trusted family friend.

“The family is pleased with the jury’s verdict and understand that while this doesn’t change what happened to their son it does prevent her from hurting anyone else’s child,” said Assistant D.A. Alyssa Henning.

A sentencing date has been set for July 10. Burlison faces a minimum 44 years in prison.
