Former state senator, Joey Pendleton, was charged with DUI after being involved in a crash in Christian County.

The police report said the Hopkinsville mayoral candidate was rear-ended at the 3500 block of US 68.

Pendleton was westbound on Cadiz Road preparing to make a right hand turn into a field, 34-year old Anthony Greenfield, of Cadiz, allegedly hit Pendleton's from behind.

Greenfield said he looked down and looked back up and Pendleton was stopped in the middle of the highway, causing him to crash into the rear end of the SUV.

According to the report, Pendleton then ran into the Christian County Livestock Market fence. No injuries were reported, but Pendleton, requested EMS stating a medical issue of low blood sugar.

However, the report says paramedics on the scene determined low blood sugar not to be an issue, and officers reportedly found an empty bottle of alcohol inside the vehicle within reach of Pendleton.

Police said he smelled of alcohol, had slurred speech, sluggish movements, and glassy eyes. No field sobriety tests were conducted due to the wreck.

Police said Pendleton implied consent prior to an interview about the crash at Jennie Stuart Medical Center, but he then refused all tests requested in the implied consent. According to the report, officers noted Pendleton did recall events correctly about the crash.

Pendleton was charged and cited into court for his 2nd offense Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol - Aggravator.
