NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Former television judge Joe Brown has been released from jail after serving a five-day jail sentence for contempt of court.
Brown was released from Shelby County Jail Tuesday morning. Brown turned himself in last Thursday.
Brown, a former Memphis judge, was charged with contempt after an outburst in Juvenile Court in March 2014. Magistrate Judge Harold Horne sentenced Brown to five days in jail following a verbal exchange in which Brown called the Juvenile Court a "sorry operation" and challenged Horne's authority.
In a ruling issued Aug. 14, the Tennessee Supreme Court denied Brown's application to appeal a Court of Appeals ruling that had upheld the sentence.
