COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The former chief for the Hardy’s Chapel Volunteer Fire Department has been indicted on theft charges in Overton County.
Officials with the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office said Terry L. Priest is now facing an indictment after a cash shortage was found in the volunteer fire department located in Overton County.
After conducting interviews and examining bank records, receipts and other accounting records, a cash shortage of $37,496.11 was found.
Investigators said Priest issued eight checks from the Hardys Chapel VFD bank account to himself and made numerous cash withdrawals from their bank accounts.
Priest was also accused of not depositing a portion of funds received from insurance proceeds and incident cost recoveries.
Priest was indicted by the Overton County Grand Jury on July 17 on one count of theft over $10,000.
