Franklin Readies For Downtown Demolition

Posted

Franklin has prepared for a big construction project in downtown. The building at 231 public square will be demolished and rebuilt.

City officials, the historic zoning commission and others have worked together to create something that is architecturally relevant to what's around them on the square.

“The building that will come will be a combination of some amazing restaurants. The first floor will be a beautiful high end restaurant that serves lunch and dinner. The 2nd and 3rd floor will be office,” said Bernie Butler.

The process of tearing down the existing building was set to begin in the next couple of weeks.

Officials said some of the trees and the brick pavers between City Hall and the bank will be removed this week. A construction fence is also expected to be in place before the weekend.

Developers said the project would take 14 months, but they plan to build quote "something pretty special" in that place.
